Not his best. Maybe his worst.
I have read a good number of his books. He is not my favorite author but he usually has an entertaining plot. His plot was a mess and it was a strain to keep up with his characters. I gave him 150 pages before I scrapped this one. Maybe it gets better, but I couldn't do it.

This Novel Keeps You Guessing
Although it’s a little too long for my taste, Brad Metzger’s novel is a good read. The twists and turns keep the reader guessing, and, although you know the main character will survive (or people would tar and feather the author), it’s still edge-of-the-seat worrying about his safety. And as for the fourth member of “The Three,” it wasn’t that easy to figure out - but, at the same time, I kind of wondered whether or not that person may be involved.Read. Enjoy…

Alot of twists and turns....
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it had so.many twists and turns and went in directions I never expected. I loved the weaving of history, politics, and intrigue. I love how this author weaves everything seamlessly and keeps everything flowing. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Hard to put down
Be sure you have lots of uninterrupted time when you pick up this book. It is fast paced and hard to put down. The author introduces a lot of characters in quick succession, so it is easy to lose track if you only read a couple of chapters and have to put it down for a day or so. Lots of twists and turns, very entertaining. Nothing like a good conspiracy!

Nice Read ; Believable Plot and Characters
Good plot. The author makes the protagonist more human to the reader in his physical deformity and subsequent self consciousness and lack of confidence. For example this person is not going to kick down doors as in many novels, but in the end manages to do as much as he can which is believable to the reader. The book probably could have been ended a few chapters early, but for the most part is a page turner and hard to put down. Complements to the author and will look forward to reading other books.

Started off a bit choppy, but got better as it went along.
Fun page-turner, with some characters more developed than others. I thought the constant jumping around was annoying at first, because the characters weren't well-enough defined to follow easily through all the drops and pick-ups. But eventually it all came together into a cohesive and engaging action/procedural drama that was hard to put down.

Once more, Meltzer weaves history and fiction beautifully
This is a great read - an engaging plot and the history revealed is interesting and thoughtworthy, as always with a Meltzer book.

Better than I expected
Okay, I just really didn't expect something that has as one of its premises Freemason conspiracies. But true to form, Meltzer came through with a couple of turns that broke the mold of that tired and lame set of stories. Even better, this book is sort of a prequel to the Culper Ring trilogy. Some familiar characters get a back story here that made me want to go back and read that trilogy. So I did.

Full of pace but ultimately a let-down
I have read Meltzer before and I have yet to find consistency of quality - some books have been great and others, like this one, have been particularly ordinary.A friend of the American President is "killed" during a motorcade shooting only to re-appear many years later. The hype would have it that a conspiracy involving a two hundred year old secret and Masonic history are at the heart of this mystery. What we get, in fact, is a long-winded chase by a Presidential aide, also badly injured at the time of the shooting, trying to discover what really went down. Naturally, the FBI, CIA and Secret Service are all involved in some way; we also have rogue agents as well as a psycho on the loose. It is true the book moves really well, has you turning the pages and has its share of surprises. But if you have turned to this in the belief that something like a "Da Vinci Code" may be in the offing, you will have been mis-led. 7/10

Not worth it, even for free
This is the second book I have read by the same author, and one that I could not finish - in fact deleted it from my device so that I don't inadvertently try to read it again. Very tiresome nonsense.
