I have Ethernet, this helps keep it tidy
I just switched over to rack mounted network gear and am quite happy with how neat everything is. Having the patch panel really makes it easier to add to my LAN. If you ever have to troubleshoot your network, this will be a real time saver. There may be better ones out there, I think I remember seeing ones with cable management but this one works fine and doesn’t cost a lot of money. I like the fact that they fit places for 24 jacks in one U on a single row. I use CAT 6 TRENDnet keystone jacks and they fit in just fine.

easy to install
There are many ways to skin the cat but the helpful explanations on assembly I’ve read so far seem to omit one essential fact: on the sides of the “wiring” part of the jack you will notice a small slit leading to a hole that will accept the wire. You must be sure to “snap” the wire down into the hole where it will (usually) stay put. I use my thumbnail to hold the wire in the wiring trough and pull it down into the slit until I feel and (usually) hear a satisfying “snap” as it locks into place. This is much easier than the Monoprice jacks which I find impossible to use. I agree that it’s easier to keep the pieces separate and join them later before snapping down the IDC portion. After straightening and inserting the wires, I arrange them around a bit to get the pairs arranged on the proper sides. I use 568A instead of B (as the photo of my “reminder” shows) but it just means reversing the colors on the right side (looking down into the wiring area). Then, I tug on the wires a bit to make sure they’re in place, hold my thumb over the wiring area, get the two pieces together and pinch the assembly shut making sure it snaps together. Next I cut the wires starting with the middle first to make the cutter nose easier to get to the wires on the end. Until I get bored of it I’ll even put the tie wrap on making sure the end is up or down and not on a side where it will interfere with inserting the jack into a rack port. One star is deducted because the main problem with this type of jack is lack of strain relief for the cable (which is not addressed by the tie wrap). After several assemblies, I started pushing the cable into the wiring area until it meets the first obstruction. This forces it past the first two wiring holes but you can bend the wires back and still get them to snap in place. However, this doesn’t provide any strain relief, it just usually keeps the jacket from coming out and exposing the wires which looks sloppy and doesn’t inspire confidence in a reliable connection. In contrast, Panduit jacks (my go to solution at the wall) offer some attempt at strain relief because you can push down on a ratcheting small cable collar and capture the cable. However, at around $10 apiece, it gets pricey putting them in the rack as well.Overall, Trendnet has done a nice job and I will use these again.
