Surprisingly great
-------Update June 4th, 2017: just a quick note to say that I've replaced this tile with the new Tile Mate for my cat, but I kept this old one for my purse just because (why send it in to be "recycled" if it's still working, right?). 18 months in and it's still working great. Will update again when the battery runs out.*edit: this tile finally went to tile heaven as of Jan2018. That's over 2 years!--------I bought this as a pet tracker even though they don't necessarily recommend it for that use. I have a cat that tends to wander off but never very far. I figured with a 100 foot radius + me walking around enough I'd be able to track her down.I tested it like crazy with all her usual hiding spots to make sure it'd work for me and that I wouldn't have to return it and was very impressed with the range. I didn't actually measure, but I counted my steps; 95 steps away and it still kept a connection. However, once it lost the connection I had to take 10-15 steps to get it to re-connect. Still...not bad! Before I put it on her collar, several times a day I'd activate it with her nearby so it plays its tune, and I'd give her a treat. Hoping she'd learn to hear the tune and come home for a treat. Well that part worked. When she's in range, I click "find" to play the tune and she runs home for her treat. Or perhaps she's running home because she's freaked out about this music that's chasing her. Either way, success! The only downfall is that sometimes she's 10 feet away and it will say "out of range". If I stand there long enough it does usually connect, but it's frustrating to wait for it to catch up. Also, the dotted circle that's supposed to tell you if you're getting hot or cold isn't always very accurate. So I find myself walking back and forth quite a bit feeling like I'm being punk'd by my own cat.All in all, it's surpassed my expectations. I've been able to find her every time. Sometimes it takes a lot longer since it has trouble connecting at times. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could, but since I can't, I'll give it 5 since I'm using it for something it's not even advertised to do, and it's still doing it quite well.Update 9/16/16: well I've had the Tile for almost a year now and I still think this thing is pretty wonderful. It has its moments where it just won't connect, sometimes for hours, but that's very rare. For the most part it's been really solid. I wanted to share what just happened a little while ago. It was around 8pm and my cat was nowhere to be seen. Very unusual for her. She never wants to be outside when it's dark. So I grabbed my phone and went searching in her usual spots. Nothing. Finally I see my Tile app shows her as nearby and connects so I can ring her Tile. I could just barely hear it ringing but finally found that the ringing was coming from a neighbor's garage! Our garages are lined up in the alley behind our condos and without the Tile I never would have even thought to look near the garages, and I never would have known which one she was in. There's a stretch of about 50 of them. As soon as I went up to the garage door and called her she meowed her little head off. I was able to ask the owner to open the door so I could get her out. Without the tile I would have been up all night looking for her and worried sick and what if the owner of that garage was not planning to open it for several days?! I get sick even thinking about it. So.. Here I am ordering 2 more tiles for my other cats even though they never go anywhere. I will just feel better if they have them. Tile has a customer for life right here, especially after tonight!

It's EXCELLENT. Earned my trust (to find my valuable pets). Highly recommend it!
I've tested this product out thoroughly. To the point I got a call from Customer Service because my questions and scenarios were approaching suspicious (of industrial espionage). They were fabulous, btw! Answered every question. No run-around answers. So as a company, I found them very stand-up.The Tile was designed for inanimate objects that are frequently lost or require tracking. I get that. And appreciate customer service answering my questions when my use is for my cats. Well, it will be for all my 4-legged pets. And my child has requested to have one too. In terms of pet recovery, the Tile provides a credible lead on last known location that translates onto a map (giving a GPS location, but it is NOT a GPS device). Our daily use doesn't rely on others using their app. It's good enough to chime me when my cat has arrive home again (she's an explorer). And even helps me determine which door (front or back or garage) she is at. I almost never chime my cat directly. It chimes my phone. It passed all my hide and seek tests, both moving and stationary. I tracked it against my 'Find my Friend' app for reasonable accuracy. It's the same, but less timely. My signal reception varies by the day. Some days it can detect my cat 2 houses away (average distanced houses and half-acre properties). Other days a bit less or even more. I think it all depends on the signal passing thru stuff or possibly competing bluetooth. Either way, it always meets the minimum and most common bluetooth range of 30ft. The latency is good (for a running, tree-climbing kitty). I am confident I can locate my pet easily if I asked my neighborhood to cue the app. I 'share' the Tile for our pets with my husband so he can also see where they are any time. You can only share a Tile with 1 other person at a time. It's good enough at doing what it claims, my husband can send me an sms from work to let me know our cat is at the door. :)The Tile App: Easy, clean interface. Free of charge. Don't need to own a Tile to use the app to help others. Must be on in the background to be helpful. Very efficient on the batteries. I really tested this! Basically, it's about 1-3% of my iPhone's battery life. But if I mark my Tile lost (while I await my cat's arrival home), it does actively use much more battery. Keep in mind, I'm waiting for my cat. She comes within 15-20 minutes of being called, but when I haven't called her, it could be an hour before her curfew (when I expect her to come back). In that case, the battery usage on my iPhone is just under what my Facebook app uses regularly. So, the final verdict is, if I use Facebook on my phone, I have no issue with battery life using my Tile App in 'lost mode'. I use the 'Lost Mode' maybe once a day at the most. Mostly for 15 minutes. We have 2 pet-tracking devices: The Tile (used daily), and Loc8tor (used as needed for longer range scanning and more directional indicator). Thanks to the GPS location on a map, I don't really use the Loc8tor much anymore. Still like both products. They're both on 2.4 GHz. Only critique is that the Tile is rather large for my petite cat. But she doesn't seem to mind. I attach the tile to her collar to resemble a watch to reduce noise from trotting. But it falls from that position now and then. And she still doesn't care. We did test another brand of similar device (which really failed on every front). So, my review comes from testing the Tile (we bought it thinking we could return it if it failed), another brand of similar device, alongside our Loc8tor Pet Tracker that works great, and against an actual GPS tracking app.My kid: She wants one. So we can find her like we can find our pets if she's ever lost or stolen! Truly, she wants one. I'd say, recognize this is a PASSIVE tracking device. It's not spy-worthy. You won't be James Bond giving a live stream of GPS locations from around the world! It's reliant on someone else using the app near enough the Tile. That said, something is always better than nothing. A lead is a lead. In this case, it would be a firm lead. And I think it would be useful at crowded venues too. She could, if panicked she's lost, press the button on her Tile to alert my phone. And vice versa if I can't see her. (IF, she's in range). We will order a bunch more for all pets, and my kid can have one too! We figure, the cars can have one, and luggage when we travel, etc.Update: I now have 5 tiles paired with my iPhone. And 3 devices (my own phone, and 2 shared devices). The battery usage went up slightly to 3-5% in monitoring mode. And can be up to 8-10% in lost mode. The upper boundary was for setting 2 tiles as lost at the same time. Was just testing it how it works with multiple tiles working at once. If I run 2 tiles in lost mode for over an hour (testing, so I did that on purpose), it can go up to 15%! But that is still much much less than my Facebook app. Still pleased with the product and its usefulness!

friendly application and great for finding misplaced keyrings
Worth a buy, friendly application and great for finding misplaced keyrings. But over priced for just a BT+app product. 90 dB ring often not very audible, and if beyond bluetooth range, the product is practically useless. But great for in-house object misplacement which you won't really call 'lost'.

Love my Tile
Very smart invention! The Tile is so easy to set up and use, it's amazing. Just download the app, attach the tile to your keys, wallet, whatever you want to keep track of, and you're done. I have the Tile on my keys, and the app on my phone. If I can't find my keys, the app on my phone locates the Tile. If I can't find my phone, just press the button on the tile and it finds my phone. It's very impressive.Cons:' Thick. They are a bit bigger than I would like, but it's not that big of an issue on a standard key ring or wallet.' Disposable. These are designed to be thrown away and replaced about every 12 months. On the positive side, it also means they are very well sealed and protected from water.' Short range. Using Bluetooth low energy means a fairly short range, only about 20 feet or so. This is kind of handy when you are trying to figure out what part of the house it is in.' Easily muffled. Doesn't take much to muffle the sound of the device even though it really loud sitting in the open.' No signal strength indicator. No way to tell if you're getting closer or further away other than being in or out of range.Pros:' Shareable. You can share the tile with another account so you can find each other's keys or whatever. Great for families or roommates.' Community Search Party. If your item is lost or stolen, then any other user then passed by it will report the location.' Easy to use. The app is simple, and setting up a new tile is trivial.' Major time saver. No more running around looking for your keys in a panic to make it to work on time!Overall:Highly recommended!

Small, clever little device with lots of uses... including as a cat-locator
I purchased the Tile to use as a basic locating device for my cat as she doesn't usually wander too far away from our house but due to her colouring she is hard to spot. The device makes a connection with the associated App your mobile phone using bluetooth, so the range is limited to about 100ft (30m), however the Tile and the App clearly communicate regularly because I can check on the App to see how long ago my cat was within range and hence if it says she's currently nearby or was nearby 2 minutes ago I know she's safely in our garden. If she's gone out of range and I need to get her to come back I can just slowly wander around the garden until I get a connection and then I can make the Tile play a melody. I'm training my cat to associated that with treat-time so she'll come home and it seems to be working :-)Obviously if your cat wanders off long distances, like most cats do (mine is just very possessive of our garden :-) ) then it won't help you locate your cat that easily. One feature I also like is that in the application you can press the green circle and it gives you an indication of the signal strength (full strength would be a full green circle, a poor strength would be 1/8th of a circle) so you know how far away the tile is.This device is great for finding things like lost keys etc in your house, but if you were to lose them in a city, you wouldn't know exactly where they are, however because the App and the Tile communicate regularly the App would know the rough location that you last had your keys with you, so you could head back to that location and see if you can get a connection to the Tile again. So unless someone has moved your keys there is a reasonable chance you could find them again. If you've lost your keys you can activate a mode on the App. If any other Tile user walks past your keys their phone will note the location and you'll be sent a notification of the location of your keys. The other Tile user would be unaware that they've helped (for the safety of your keys), but it's a useful "community" feature. The manufacturer also sends out emails with hints and tips and a couple of tips I really like are:1) When going on holiday put a Tile in your car so that when you've parked your car and walked away, the App will note the rough location of your car, so it should be easier to find your way back to it in a large carpark.2) Put a Tile in your hold-luggage (check-in bags) and just as you're entering the aircraft you can open up the App on your phone and see if it makes a connection to your tile ... if it does you will know your bag is on the flight (however this is pushing the limits of the range of bluetooth, so it might not get a signal even if the Tile is on the aeroplane). When you get to the destination airport you can stand back from the crowd gathered around the baggage reclaim belt and just wait for your App to get a connection with your Tile and you know your bag is on its way around the belt! Neat. The other handy thing is that if you lose your mobile you can double-press the button on the Tile and your phone will play a melody, even if it's on silent (even if you've activated the mute switch on the side of an iPhone). After using it for a few weeks ago the battery seems to be drained as it's not making a connection even when she's within 50ft of me, so hence giving it 4 stars. I'm now trying another Tile and will see how long this one lasts. The manufacturer state they will replace Tiles if the battery lasts less than 12 months from the date you activate the Tile (no matter how long you might have had a "spare" one sat in a draw waiting to be used). When the battery dies you can send the Tile back to the manufacturer and they'll replace it for a small fee (less than the cost of a new tile).
