Novapolt External DVD Drive, CD Burner for Mac and Windows USB 3.0

This product is great for the price. I use disc drive with Mac laptop Snow Leopard, HP Windows 8.1 all in one desktop and Alienware Windows 10 laptop. The HP and Alienware have no disc drives. The disc drive is small, looks nice. There is no need for any software downloads. Just plug and play. The drive does everything as advertised. I am giving it 4 stars for these reasons. First let me say it happens with all 3 computers. The Mac recognizes disc drive the fastest in less then 30 seconds. The HP and Alienware can take as long as 90 seconds to recognize drive. With all 3; drive connected upon start up with a disc, they may not recognize disc is there. If disc in place with drive is not in use for varying lengths of time and I click play, I get message to insert disc. I check my control panel and drive is always listed as being connected. I simply have to disconnect and reconnect drive and it works fine. I do not know why this is a problem. My solution is simple.

Since CDs appear to be much thinner than they used to be, my old burner (only a few months old) was not recording properly. This new drive is working fine. What a relief!

I liked the price, and even at the low price it is a quality product. I am very satisfied with the product and the service.

Very Nice drive. Pretty too.I decided to skip all internal external drives in my new PC build!!! Yes even 2.5" SSD. I went with PCIE card based Intel 750 series SSD...So I removed ALL ODD drives bays, 5.25" HDD cages and 2.5" SSD mounts everything...Now I need a Optical drive to install SW occasionally and may be use some DVD in the next 10 years...LoL. so I decided to by this and this is very good product. Looks sleek and I can slip it in the back pack too for the laptop (again no optical drives anymore) if needed.I like the way the connector and wire are tucked in long slot the back.Some constructive criticism here to the manufacturers....1A. The connecting wire needs to be double the size. it is too small I had to hang the drive from USB port, not good. or I had to place it over the top surface of my desktop PC blocking the exhaust fand again not good. May be if the wire is long enough I can place it on the table. I like the way the USB connector and the wire is hidden in the 1-looped slot; may be you need 3-loops for a longer wire.1B. When used with a laptop this problem is not huge since we need the drive close to the laptop anyways. But this drive is very inconvenient if the USB3 port is at the right side of the Laptop in which case the drive is facing backward. In my opinion there should be a swivel in the real middle of the drive and two slots to each side to escape the wire if it needs to be used either right side or left side of the laptop.2. The wire is stiff and at the end (not the connector end) where it enters the drive itself there is a small groove to facilitate that it can escape properly. But it does not. the groove is too shallow and the wire is stiff which makes the drive lifted up at one back right corner and it is tilting and the whole thing is sitting very precariously like a 3 legged chair...(the wire could be supple and the groove could be deeper or you could install a swivel there)3. In addition the tilt created by #2 above when the drive bay opens by popping out it due to weight of the drive it basically tips over to the front. May be if you load the rear edge little more to counter this it will be great.

i liked it enough but overtime i wanted to take a cd out i had to de tatch it from the computer then reattach and push eject to get my cd out.

Ordered this via Prime. Received it as promised. Unfortunately, it does not work. Plug it into the USB port of my computer and all it does is make a repetitive clicking noise every 2-3 seconds. PC does recognize the CD player as it shows up in My Computer and has it's model number under settings (WIN 10). Even with a CD inserted, it just clicks, never spins up the CD.Sending it back for a refund. Bummer.

Good product arrived on time.

This was a huge let down for me. I had DVD external driver troubles in the past and I'm not sure if its because my laptop is not compatible, but I had to go as far as to contact Microsoft and have them install updates and other crap for this thing to work.Its probably only my computer, but I don't recommend it if you have an ASUS LAPTOP with Windows 8
