I liked the locking mechanism, because you have to turn a dial to pick one of 4 options - access in and out; totally locked; pet locked in, but can't get out; or pet can get out, but can't come back in. Other doors I looked at had the locks on the bottom of the doorway itself, such that the cat could accidentally reset the setting and lock himself in or out. (Not good if you are very far away and your cat has locked itself out of your house while you are away. My husband had this installed in our garage door quickly. The best spot for the cat and so as to not be too visible from the driveway. We've put the cat through the door numerous times, from outside in and the reverse and he still does not quite get the concept. I imagine once food is involved, he will figure this out.

We adopted an inside/outside cat from a neighbor and worried if we were not home and he needed shelter a cat door for the garage was needed. I did a bit of research and for the money this cat door so far is working out great (have not experienced a winter or snow yet). Our cat is quite smart and after being a bit hesitant now goes in and out at his leisure. He’s not a big cat (about 9 lbs) and easily can push the hinged door with his head to get in and out. He prefers being out so I now have peace of mind if its late and he’s out after we go to bed he always has a secondary way to get shelter, food, and to his cat bed. As far as installation, my husband is very handy so made the hole in the garage wall between the beams, saved the plywood in case we want to close up the hole as we also have extra siding it wouldn’t be an issue. Installation was not a piece of cake, but not terrible either.
