12 volt car power is all you need. Tap into your reverse light. Unless you want to control it manually then you can tap into a live 12 volt line and put a toggle switch. That would be good if you want to hook it up front for parking closer to an object.

Q: Does this work for the sides of the car?

This is a standard proximity sensor so it will work wherever you need to install it. Good product. I have installed on my car.

Q: Has anyone used this kit for front sensors? I know it can physically work, but are the sensors heavy duty enough to stand up to road grime/wind/etc?

Yes I have used it in the back and the front, Ran a switch to put on and take off when I need it. Only used two of the Four, two stopped working a short time after about 8 months, luckily I had two spare sensors so I put them on. Hope this helps, almost two years now and still going strong.
