Rockler 8 oz Brass Darkening Solution

It works like nothing else I've tried. Delighted with the results.But, it merits some trial and error to use on different surfaces. How you clean the existing surface(s) makes a big difference in the results. Follow the instructions and test on a sample first.I found the the brass must be free of any oils, (including from your hands),the immersion method works best, timing is important and not linear, and that light rubbing with a cloth immediately afterwards is critical to getting a realistic aged finish.The final result is worth the brief learning curve!

I bought this to age a super shiny bright brass faucet that didn't match my home's decor. Keep in mind, you'll have to strip ALL of the clear lacquer off first or it will not work. I didn't even have to remove the faucet. I used a sponge brush and just brushed it over the faucet until the color darkened, which happened very fast (about a minute or two). I then lightly buffed with fine steel wool to lighten up the areas I wanted brighter. Most of the effort was stripping the lacquer. So worth it!

The solution was only able to be used once then it was no longer able to darken my copper. I also had to scrub my copper a lot to get the black dust layer off. When it dried it kept turning white which was the “dust” I was talking about.

This product was cheap, delivery was fast and results were fast and good.

Not sure if this frame is lacquered or what? I even sanded a portion of it before I tried this product. No change. Waste of money, but that's on me.

Bought this to patina some casters and I LOVE how it turned out. So quick and easy. And it didn't rust the wheels or bearings at all! Definitely recommend.

I tried to use this on bright brass knobs, in order to make them match the same knobs in an antique brass finish. This product did not work at all. I might have had to remove any varnish or coating on the knobs, but the directions did not say this. Anyway, it did not work for me.
