MerkurBlack Handled MK-30B Double Edge Safety Razor

My first safety razor, and I still have it years later

I have used double edged razors my whole life. This one shaves like a Gillette introductory razor making it easy to learn and probably you won't cut yourself. It is close enough for me that I won't be "graduating" to some other razor. The blade angle (which is fixed) is good, and there is enough room for lather and cut hairs to get out that it does not clog. Some of the multi-blade models I have tried that that problem without shaving any closer. From that standpoint I'd give it 5 stars. Although it might not be the best for tough beards. I don't have one so I cannot tell.However the description is that this razor is made from Stainless steel. It clearly is not. It is chrome plated which stainless steel does not need. From the appearance of the head, I am guessing that it is die cast metal and plated. Given the die casting, it is probably zinc or similar. You'd get a better price looking for a used razor of similar design in nickel plated brass on eBay, and it would shave just the same. Or look for the Classic 3-piece open comb from the same manufacturer which has an similar head but costs noticeably less.

Not sharp at all. Didn't shave close for me at all even with Merkur blades. If you are looking for close shave, chose a different razor

Handle is too short.

This is a nice razor and whether you feel it is mild or aggressive you van grt a very close and comfortable shave with this. Ive had mine for a couple of years now and love it.

When screwed together properly (not tightly at all), the razor was okay. It worked best when the head was on loose, but coincidentally it would start to unscrew if you applied any slight amount of force, making shaving difficult. I've used another, cheaper safety razor with better results. I think this problem might stem from the tolerances they use. For mine, if the top and bottom were slightly further apart, it would shave very well! Maybe I just got one that slipped through the quality control?

I have had this razor for 4 years and I don’t think I will use or buy any other razor! The razor is well balanced and a very elegant design.Although more expensive than buying a Gillette razor with cartridges in the long run it is so much cheaper to buy single razor blades than cartridges, the blades last longer and I feel you get a much closer shave.

This is a lovely little razor! Beautifully made and finished, it is both lightweight and very compact (smaller and lighter than I expected). The black part of the handle is textured hard anodised aluminium, and gives a very grippy surface when wet, as well as looking very classy with the the contrast to the two shiny end pieces (in my opinion!) The head is the standard Merkur 3-part, and gives a mild but highly efficient shave. Maybe not so well suited to wild, tough beards, but just great for everything else. This should be a very 'safe' razor for newcomers to DE shaving, and because it is very lightweight and maneuverable, it should be an easy transition for someone used to a plastic disposables. Highly recommended!

Good product, maybe a bit to light though. But for the size you can't expect to have much weight.

Er ist klein, leicht und sehr handlich.Für Anfänger gut geeignet,da sanft und trotzdem gründlich.Besonders bei den Problemzonen,wie Nase und Unterlippe ist er bestens geeignet.Verarbeitung ist erstklassig.Made in Germany!!!

Die ersten paarmal gewöhnungsbedürftig. Weil Kopflastig, der Griff könnte schwerer sein. Dann währe das Gewicht gleichmäßiger verteilt. Aber sonst sehr Gutes Gerät.
