Adds beneficial tannins to the water. Be careful and make sure you seal the big holes at each end if you have smaller fish. They can get stuck inside. Other than that, this is good quality cholla wood.

i have a few of these in my tank and my shrimp and snails love them. i added a few live plants to each piece and then put suction cups on them so they could help hide heater and filter. well worth the money, i was happy with the sizes of each piece. will buy again

This item is perfect for my 10 gallon aquarium. I’ve been taking my time putting it together because I want a very natural look/feel and this fits what I wanted perfectly. I soaked these in water for about an hour before adding them into the tank. One piece did get that slime mentioned in some of the other comments but it was easy enough to rinse off and pop back in the tank. I don’t have any fish in yet so I can’t say if it’ll have any effect on your fish. The only reason why didn’t give a 5 star review is because mine didn’t sink down and they’ve been in the tank 6 days. Quick and easy solution is to just put gravel inside and it stays down where you want it. I’m pretty happy with it so far

I boiled the cholla wood for 5 minutes, then soaked for couple days to reduce the amount of Tannin. Water still browned but provides great hiding place for my shrimp!

It’s cholla. Not all of the pieces were see through from end to end. Very small diameter. I’ll just go out on my property and pick some up for nothing. I just wanted to see what was actually being sold. Not impressed.
