A Compass Whenever You Need It

As an outdoors person, I have spent a lot of time in forests and wilderness. The Suunto wrist compass allows for Accurate directional readings and is always available on the wrist opposite my watch.

Quality is good and functional if held horizontally

This is an acceptably accurate compass. The face glows a pleasant dull green color when exposed to a flashlight for a few seconds. I recommend shinning a flashlight on this compass for 40 seconds or more to make the compass glow for a longer period of time. *NOTE: You need to hold this compass completely horizontal so the direction needle arrow won't stick. The arrow direction needle will stick when this compass is not perfectly horizontal.

Decent as a backup or light use compass

I got this as a replacement for my Suunto button compass which got lost somewhere in my house. As a backup compass it works fine. The features are very basic, but you can't really expect more for the price.I use this during my day hikes to oriented without having to use visual navigation clues or resorting to using my Garmin Instinct watch compass (or my phone). I just want to take a quick bearing while walking and this is a perfect tool for that. The only drawback I see with this is that overall, it feels a bit too flimsy. I will likely try and find out a more suitable long-lasting replacement as I am enjoying the concept of an immediate reliable orientation tool. You will likely want to ditch the Velcro strap it comes with and get a Nato watch strap, which works perfectly with this compass. I got an 18mm wide one, but a 19mm could have been a better/tighter match. As noted by others the fluorescence feature of the compass is not good enough to rely on it to make a reading - this is definitely not something I would recommend for diving or spelunking.

Good little wrist compass

Good little wrist compass. The compass fits my Ranger band watch cover with protective over flap. The compass is good for quick movements in a specific direction. For land navigation for a long distance I would prefer to use a Military Lens-etic compass or a base plate compass like the Suunto MC 2. This compass is very sensitive to metal or other electronic devices. If you place it next to your watch it will give you a bad reading. If your carrying a weapon or standing next to a metal structure it will give you a wrong reading. This compass is just to get you pointed in the right direction until you can pull out your actual compass that you normally navigate with. It is a convenient way to start going in the right direction for short distances. It has a compass card with triangle that points to magnetic north. It has a rotating capsule for setting direction to target. It has a bearing index for reading numerical bearing from compass card. It has orienting indicators for aligning with cardinal directions to find direction to target. It has a notch and window for precise sighting of an object. It does not have a way to change declination. You have to do that in your head mathematically or by using your paper map and orientating the map to its declination. I do recommend this little wrist compass for EDC. Ensure you get the compass for your hemisphere.

Great wrist compass

This is a great wrist compass. This doesn't really compare with standard sighting compasses, button compasses, or baseplate compasses. The closest comparison would probably be a diving compass, but not as bulky. The resolution/precision of the compass is five degrees. As noted with other reviews, if you use the sighting function on the compass, you can easily interpolate to within a degree or so.As far as accuracy, I haven't tested it against known landmarks, but it is consistently within a few degrees of my MC-2, which suggests to me that it is pretty accurate. The size is great and it's pretty stylish. As others said, the strap that comes with the compass is pretty ugly and uncomfortable. I went ahead and replaced the strap right away and now it's how it should have been. For hiking, this pairs up great with a solid baseplate or mirror compass.

Marine Opinion: Meh dont get it for land nav

I was a little disappointed to find this compass wasn't as accurate and is overly sensitiveI tested its abilities against my SUUNTO MC2G, Coghlans Map Compass, Garmin Etrex 32x, and Garmin Solar Instinct and this compass performed the worst out of all of them.It seems like its never leveled correctly and just constantly throwing itself around with any sort of movement, I thought it was supposed to be designed for being worn on the wrist so shouldnt it be better? Id need a bubble level just to see if its leveled otherwise you're going to be off.It was off up to 10* at some points when I took off the strap and placed the compass on a table! If you're looking for a secondary or tertiary compass this might work or as a last resort

Great Azimuth and General Bearing Compass

You aren't going to use this for map navigation but basic land navigation with azimuth and general bearing readings do just fine.It is particularly sensitive to magnetic fields in my experience so wear it opposite of your watch and don't be holding your phone while you are taking a reading. It will roll off 5 degrees easily that way.I most use this for fishing / hunting to set a general azimuth and reverse azimuth when I park, see an animal or take a shot as it is faster to check this than it is to cycle through my watch or phone for the GPS compass. It's a great animal recovery tool. You take a shot, identify the bearing and your reverse azimuth and you can grid to that bearing. The strap is terrible but any 18mm NATO strap will work.
