Truly a S****y Book

I would like to preface this review by saying I am pretty crass and I enjoy dirty jokes. I won’t hesitate to smirk when I drive by Dick’s Sporting Goods or set my thermostat to 69 degrees. Similarly, places like Intercourse, Pennsylvania, Lake Titicaca and the planet Uranus always get a chuckle from me. I have been known to “crop dust” at work and break wind in elevators. I still also love Mr. Hankey the Christmas Pooh from South Park. His whimsical adventures and cheerful songs continue to delight me every holiday. All of this being said, I found this book utterly revolting. I read the reviews, people said it was funny, so I thought I would give it a whirl with my 8 and 5 year old. Let me tell you, there are illustrations of poop on every page. It gets pretty repetitive after the first 2 pages or so. And yes, all the animals poo and the zoo keeper has to pick it up, but good lord, does it have to be constantly described? Then at the end of the story, the book features a man who collects unusual poop. Pause a minute, and take that in. Someone actually collects poop as a hobby. He scoops up poop, puts it in jars, labels it, and places it on a shelf. Am I the only one who finds that disturbing, even if it is fiction? Why would any one do that?Overall, this entire book is so over the top with the verses about poop, and the illustrations of poop on every single page that it is not funny. It is too much and it is sickening. As a parent, having had to change diapers and clean poop, and also picking up my dog’s poop daily, I understand the look, the feel and the horrid smell of poop and I found this book to be simply gross. My kids chuckled a bit at the beginning of it but by the end they looked bored. Why? The repetition of the poop and what the animals do with the poop and what the zoo keeper and the feces-fanatic at the end does with the poop. It is too much. Take heed, reader, take heed. The good news is that this book did inspire me to write my own stomach-churning stories. Maybe Menses at the Fences or the Vomit Comet. Maybe Mia’s Diarrhea or The Pus Bus. Who knows?

Everything poops!

With all of the “bring a book instead of a card” rage, this was a fun take on it. I knew no one else would get it. Super cute and a fun giggle book. I would recommend.

This book was a big hit with not only our friends 4 Y/O, but made all of us adults laugh! His mom says he wants it read to him every night and can’t wait to get into bed knowing what a treat it is to read again and again!!

Great way to change the mood

Fantastically written book. The story has my child reading along due to its silly nature and great use of words. The illustrations are well done as well.I find myself pulling this story out when I need to get him out of a funk. It's hard not to giggle when you are reading about Poo... in the Zoo!

My grandchildren aged 4 and 2 love this book. They are just at the age where the word poo is hilerous. Ilive in England my grandchildren live in America, books are one of our connections, especially ones that make them laugh.

Kids love this

My 4 yr old son has learning difficulties and has the attention span of a gnat, so trying to get him to sit and look at a book can be hardwork, however show him a book about poo and apparently he will not only sit and listen once but will ask for it to be read again and again. He loves this book, the rhyming nature of it means it's quick and interesting, the illustrations are really good. It's quite simply a really good book, he has taken into nursery and his specialist school and all of his peers enjoyed it too.

So funny.

I'm torn between the thought that so many childrens books have a poo theme now, and that also, many of them are actually quite funny... and thats exactly what this one is. Talking about poo is a sure fire way to get your children giggling, and it makes the bedtime book read a really funny time with the kids. nice quick read too without being too quick.

Fun book

I bought this book to try and encourage my grandson with his potty training - not sure it worked in that sense but he loves the book - thinks it is so funny - the story is great fun and the illustrations fit the story perfectly.

Poo and animals, what's not to love!

I bought my 4.5 year old son this book for Christmas, and it's been a firm favourite with both of us ever since. The rhyming text makes it easy to read and the pictures (and frequent mentions of poo) delight my little boy. According to my son the funniest part is when Hector Gloop wants to buy the poo and he now quotes 'Will you sell your poo to me?' (accompanied with much laughter) for quite a while after every reading!

I’m buying the set of books by this author..love his work.

Fabulous!! My grandson who is 6 and autistic loved this book. It arrived just before tea time and I showed it to him and asked if we could have this as our bedtime story. He was ok with this. But once we started the story he laughed and laughed. I had to read it to him three times before he would settle down for the night. It was a joy to see him trying to read the words. It fired his imagination and because he thinks it’s a bit naughty to talk about poo he wants to read it himself. I would encourage anyone who is trying to teach their little ones to read to get this book. The illustrations are lovely and detailed with words about poo. 🤣
