Ron Carlson Writes a Story: Tips from a Master of the Craft

This is a super little book that literally walks the reader through the thinking process of writing a short story, line by line almost. Interspersed with personal anecdote and explanation, Ron Carlson's book is a real delight, especially for would be writers learning the craft. I readily recommend it.

It’s not a thick book, but it is useful. He explains his process for writing a story, which he details sentence by sentence. It boils down to: stay in the room. Write what keeps you (the writer) wanting to know more.

Interesting read, but in no way demystifies the writing process. In fact probably makes it seem even more elusive and intimidating for the beginner. That said, still enjoyable.
