I miss the nineties.
Funny, mature and a movie full of character. They don't make em like they used to.

Clever and deep business morality play
The theme of this movie is: Altruism versus egoism in the business world.Gregory Peck delivers a great performance as an altruistic company owner. Devito is shrewd and irreverant as the corporate raider. The movie gives each of them plenty of screen time to present his argument, and you are the judge. The twist to it all is that the lovely daughter (Penelope Ann Miller) of the company owner is a lawyer charged with using any legal means of protecting the company from DeVito. And DeVito is trying to win both her heart AND the company. He's the model of ambition. The dialogue often sparkles with unexpected surprises: "I hate it when people ask me if they can be frank with me. It makes me wonder about what they are the rest of the time."And BOTH the final speeches are masterpieces, clearly presenting both sides of the essential moral issue. As a comedy, it may not completely satisfy. But as a morality play, it satisfies completely. Each time I see it, I understand more.

A Welcome DVD
I've been looking forward to the DVD version of this film for ages. It's funny, and goes against form in showing the "heartless" capitalist as a moral, likable person. The proxy battle scene is one of my favorites in all of film, with Gregory Peck and Devito forcefully advocating different views on the purpose of a company.I will go against popular opinion and say it is strange that Devito's character falls madly in love with Penelope Miller's character. She does a lousy job playing a sexy street-smart lawyer, and all the revealing dresses in the world couldn't cover that ineptitude. Thus the 4 star review. The DVD is a pleasant surprise. The wide screen reveals what the cinematographer was going for with the short, stocky Devito strutting across the screen. It's both comic and adds to the character seeing a little man who walks like a giant. I saw this movie on my new Dell LCD monitor and the colors are deep and beautiful, with no noticeable dirt on the print: an excellent transfer for an obscure movie. Nothing special in the way of special features, but what do you expect?

Cash McCall modernized.
Other People's Money is basically a ripoff/update of Cash McCall (1959, http://www.amazon.com/Cash-McCall-HD-James-Garner/dp/B007J8XZJE/), about an entrepreneur trying to acquire a privately owned company, but falling in love with the owner's daughter in the process. But this version has the plot simplified, with less involvement of other companies or other women. Danny De Vito has the role of the corporate raider, and Gregory Peck the owner of the company, corresponding to the role played by Dean Jagger in Cash McCall (and in my opinion, as good an actor as Peck is, Dean Jagger was better as the honest small business owner.Having said all this, it's still a great film, and the only reasons I didn't give it five stars are the way it borrowed the story but tried to appear original, and the crude sex humor that added nothing. It's well written and acted, and makes you consider both sides of the conflict.

Danny Devito Is A Treasure
Danny Devito is 4 Foot something, pudgy, balding, and plays a leading man across a woman that stands a foot above him, without ever making it feel unbelievable. He also stands toe to toe with Gregory Peck, in his final role. This film is a fun, if not a bit dated, look at the Corporate Takeover world of the 1980's. Danny Devito brings his character to life from the very first moment of the film, and ends it with two of the best arguments on the benefits and negatives of the corporate takeover world. This is an ode to capitalism and a condemnation of it, it's a romance, a comedy, and a family drama, all packed into 90 minutes of entertaining back and forth repartee.

Charming love story
This is a nice movie about a capitalist meeting a corporate lawyer. In between, you have an old factory that is losing money but the owner doesn't want to sell. Devito is fabulous in this role. He is ruthless but has a nice heart inside. Good supporting cast all around.

A great film
A brilliant role for Danny DeVito which shows quite starkly the mind of the corporate "raider". His speech at the General Meeting of the company "I'm not your best friend I'm your only friend" is a fantastic piece of acting

Greed is Good
Yet another film that can only be watched on multi region. But worth it! A film that proves 'greed is good' and yet is a pleasure to watch!
