Title: Powerful and Portable Wi-Fi 6 Travel Router – Perfect for On-the-Go Users
I bought the TP-Link TL-WR3002X for travel, and it’s exceeded my expectations. The compact size makes it super easy to pack, and the USB-C power option means I can use it with a power bank on the go. Setup was quick using the TP-Link Tether app, and switching between router, access point, or repeater mode is seamless. The Wi-Fi 6 performance is excellent — I got stable speeds for video streaming and work calls, even when multiple devices were connected. It also supports several VPN protocols (OpenVPN, WireGuard, etc.), which is a must-have when using hotel or public Wi-Fi.I love the extra features like the microSD slot and USB 3.0 port for media sharing. My only gripe is that it sometimes struggles to connect to networks with captive portals, and it doesn’t support SIM cards for cellular fallback.Overall, if you're a frequent traveler or need a powerful mini router, this is a great pick!Pros:Fast Wi-Fi 6 speedsMultiple operation modesVPN supportCompact and travel-friendlyUSB-C poweredCons:No built-in cellular connectivityOccasional issues with public Wi-Fi login pages

Perfect for travel
NEEDED this to use a baby monitor cam while in a hotel. Where i was in the hotel, the 5ghz wifi didnt have enough signal for this to connect but the 2.4ghz worked perfect. You connect to the hotel wifi in the app on your phone, then sign into the hotel splash page also on your phone, but outside the app , like in a web browser or in wifi settings. You only need to do that once and everything connected to your router is ready to go. It kept us connected during our whole trip. Loved this little magic thing. Thinking i'll even use it to stream shows to a chromecast in hotels.I like this better than the cheaper model because you dont have to manually select the mode with the physical switch. It just knows, or you can force select a mode in the app if you had to. Love that it can run off a battery pack too. And it can be used at home as an extender? Man its great. I have a lot of tp link stuff, they never let me down.

Small and portable
Showed up quickly, easy set up except I have not been able to connect to the internet with it. Not sure if I got the correct sim card or am not duing something correctly

It handles the Captive Login and remembers it so you are able to use this in hotels and resorts.
This router does everything it is advertised to do and is surprisingly powerful. I am staying in a three story resort and it covers all three floors with strong wi-fi. It does take a few moments to setup when you travel to a new location to get through the Captive Login but once you are connected it works flawlessly. I highly recommend on end this for travelers.

Great option for a VPN-capable travel router
I bought this for travel and to use a VPN. So far it has performed well in tests. Using NordVPN I can get 350mbps up and down regularly over wifi and around 400-450mbps over ethernet. It appears to be doing a great job. I also connected a USB drive to the device to test local storage and it worked well. I haven't tested the range yet, but considering it is a travel router, you will probably be fairly close to it anyway. For any connected device that will use the VPN, you have to manually add it under the VPN client profile. It took me a few minutes to figure that out. Also, you can't copy and paste the storage password to allow access to the drive, you have to type it out and then copy and paste.A nice feature is that you can connect a USB modem (4G/5G) or phone to the router and have a dual WAN (backup) configuration. I have only tested it with a wired WAN connection and not using a wifi connection for the WAN as you would on public wifi. You can also power it with a portable power bank if you need to take it on the road. I have not tested this part yet.Overall, for the money, it is a great option for a VPN-capable travel router that is small enough to take with you. As with any router, you need to know how to secure it.

Tried two models, same tech issue, tech support said to replace
Bought this as the concept was great. However, This is the second unit that I tried to get working. They both have the same problems and after trying all the methods per the manual , I finally contacted tech support. they were very helpful, but couldn't resolve the issue either. The problem is that I was able to set it up, but after the unit was turned off then tried again, it lost all the settings. I thought it interesting that tech support said the V1.6 was the older model and there was a new version (both models from Amazon were US/v1.6, look on the model sticker on the box or unit) The replacement process from Tplink was too long and required me to register it, then request a replacement, which initially I tried, but they were unable to find the RMA that tech support issued. TOO MUCH BS. I just returned both. Dont waste your time trying to set this up if you get the US/1.6 version.

Super Easy Setup - Fast Speeds!
I already have another TP Link router so I was familiar with setting up a router on the Tether app. Setting up this router was just as easy. I am now using a VPN for both routers and the Tether app makes it super easy to set up. You will need to get a token from your VPN provider, but it's a snap. It's fine if you don't use VPN, even easier. This is about as easy as it gets for advanced networking stuff. Highly recommend.

Convenient Travel Router
This will make business travel a lot easier. Now I can connect my laptop to a private wifi network while using the hotel's wifi. My company blocks me from connecting to open networks. This will resolve that issue. The initial setup is definitely a bit more complicated than it needs to be. I tried to use the Tether app but was unsuccessful. I thought it was the work VPN on my phone. Tried my other phone. No luck there. Reset the router, then did the browser approach. That got me connected. Be mindful if you have auto reconnect set to another wifi. That will cause some frustration when this router reboots during setup. You will think something is not working correctly. Work out those connectivity / set up issues, and then we have a 5 star product.
