A single cell head light that remembers its last settings

I have seen and purchased several cheap illumination devices that grossly exaggerate the lumens rating. At full brightness this is in the realm of 1000 lumens.Any device claiming over 2000-3000 lumens off a single 18650 is likely to be false. These batteries are about 3AH at 3.7V or about 10WH. State of the art LED are about 100lumen/watt. Thus 1000 lumens is about 10 watts or 1 hour life, 2000 lumens would be 20 watts and 30 minutes life, and 3000 lumens would be 30 watts and 20 minutes life). These higher wattages are also likely to get hot enough to burn you. On the contrary, a light with 5W/500 lumens would last 2 hours and not burn you. Thus ratings like 10K or 100K lumens are ridiculous and don't exist in this form factor.Pros:- 1000 lumens is reasonable approximation of brightest setting- Remembers last light level setting.Cons:- There is a 0.5 to 1s delay from pressing the button until the light turns on (or off). This could be a problem if you intend to only turn the light on when you see or hear someone approaching. The different brightness settings are accessed by long-press the power button. Overall this is a good interface as short press turns the light on or off. It does mean cycling through all the modes takes 10s of seconds but once you find one you like, you can turn the light off and on without losing the setting.I've found the dimmest setting is good for walking on improved(paved/gravel/boards) trails when the days are short. It provides enough light to see obstacles, and warn those on those e-bikes of your presence. Its dim enough light to avoid destroying your night vision, but still more light than most cell phone flashlights. The charge should last many hours. The brightest two settings are useful for grilling at night or working on projects in poorly lit areas. They also may be useful for faster-than-walking speeds on trails at night (such as bike, e-bike or running). I don't do those activities so can't comment further. It projects at least as well as a car low beam but doesn't compete with a high beam. The second dimmest setting is useful for walking less improved trails with ankle twister obstacles like roots, holes and rocks. It provides good center beam illumination while projecting usable light to the sides. The beam/zoom is not adjustable. The built-in charger accepts other usb-c (to type A) cables. It successfully charges from all the USB-A sources I can find, but does not successfully charge from any of my high-power capable usb-c sources that are capable of 30W-130W. I don't have a basic 5V/2A USB-C source to test. Its also possible to swap the battery as easily as an AA/AAA. Carry any spare 18650s in an (electrically) insulated box. Shorting or crushing this battery type can produce a jet of flame like a model rocket engine or fireworks.

After 30 days of constant use - High Quality build/parts, Light Output AS ADVERTISED, Great Price!

First Misleading Reviews - unfortunately well intentioned reviewers misinterpret technical spec documents and make mistakes that tear apart good products like this one. This is in response to Kimberly's Review of the specs included with the SLONIK S25 model 1,000 Lumen, dual LED Headlamp, and the product itself & the packaging, accessories , etc.. First I can understand and even empathize with her frustration as to why more electronics aren't made in USA and the relatively lower cost of products made in Asia, some of those products/companies are not reliable & I too have found incorrect or exaggerated specs. BUT in this case - I found SLONIK to be Extremely reliable, customer service oriented, products r very well made, excellent craftsmanship, name brand parts & reliable operation - their instructions are EXCELLENT, clear & concise including warranty information, specs & contact info. Top 10% IMHO as compared to similar electronics I purchased on Amazon in past 10 years. That said - the "False Advertising Claim" you made re: the pair of CREE X-Lamp model XP-G2 LEDs (Proudly stated, BTW, that the LEDs are Made in America!! - SLONIK's primary selling point!).. The Flux output you refer too on Cree's website (pages 6-14) is clearly stated as the "Minimum Luminous Flux @ 85 C & (more importantly!!) @ 350 mA". - If you go to page 17, you'll find a Table - "Relative Flux vs Current" (@ 85 C) for both the Standard and High Efficacy versions of this same LED - the Standard version can handle up to 1500 mAh batteries, the Hi-Efficacy up to 2000 mAh. At 350 mAh - we see it intersects @ 100% - just like you said - if battery was a 3.7V @ 350mAh then Flux (lumens) would be 100% x 164 lm = 164 lumens per LED x 2= 328 lm output from both LEDs. BUT we have a 2200mAh battery - look at the graph - @ 1000mAh it is 250% x164 = 410 each LED (820 lm total) @ 1500 mAh (max for standard Cree XPG-2) = 340% x 164 = 557 lm x 2 LEDs = 1114 lm Total - MORE than Spec claims and well within 2200mah/3.7V battery rating - spec claims that at this level (assuming it is the 100% mode) - you'll get 4 hours before recharge (battery dissipates 8.14 watts/hour, or max of 2.2 hours running full load, @ 1500mah/3.7V load - battery will dissipate 5.55 Watts/hr. My quick math in my head says we should get around 3.5 hours of battery at 100% brightness setting, spec says "4 hours" at 100% running at 10 watts (each LED is rated at max 5V/1A or 5 Watts x 2 = 10 Watts). Anyway - according to Slonik's spec and Cree's Data Sheet for the LED & battery capacity chart (assuming all is perfect - NEVER IS) the Lumens STATED in SLONIK's Spec = 1000 lm for 2 x CREE XPG-2 Standard Version is CORRECT as math and Specs say output @ 1500mah = 1114 lm - Close enough - Color Temp - Depends which model CREE they used - I would guess in Daylight/Cool White range where LED has higher Flux in that 4200-8000 Kelvin range rather than warm white below 4000 Kelvin range. In closing - after about 6 weeks using this light almost everyday with my head and light stuck in 9.5" ceiling holes cut for 4 new Dolby Atmos speakers and new 6" smart Recessed lights (x 8). The storage case, instructions and battery are IMO high end for any price-range, charge cable and integrated mini-USB port - is flimsy - not because SLONIK is bad - that mini USB is awful in general it is unreliable and should be discontinued on any equipment (cell phones included) - it's garbage and a bad idea - if u r careful with it it's fine - get a higher quality cable - I have a spare external 18650 floor charger - I use it for my LED flashlights - BTW flat top battery that SLONIK uses has no connection troubles in my external charge (no electrical contact issues because of small positive nipple on the battery - nipple is fine just like it is). I typically set headlamp on lowest or 2nd lowest setting for my purposes - electronics repair, construction projects, outdoor dark night activities - sneaking around at night & BBQ-ing in the dark. Have not found a practical use for "Full Power" Yet - but man is it bright - and the combo "Spot" & "Flood" HQ lenses are excellent. Charges fully in less than 90 minutes - my only minor complaint is it does get warm if u wear it directly on exposed skin - like my skull/forehead - need to turn it off between "jobs".Band is very soft & comfortable, easy to adjust. In summary, the negative review re: Lumen Output was a simple MISUNDERSTANDING of how CREE's LED Flux output is calculated - & I think some folks paid lots of $$$$ for other "BRANDS" that are same as this & R looking for a "Flaw" in this product that just isn't there.

Decent light for the money. I’d buy another

Function and quality of the light itself is great. Not a fan of the clip in light to the headband. Seems like it will be prone to failure over time given the weight of the light and battery. It is easy to remove from the clip which makes me weary of it being knocked out while being active. We’ll see.Battery does well and light has lots of dimming options. For the money, it’s a good one to have in packs and cars and better than the blister pack Energizer or Harbor Freight versions. Comes with a nice case and charged cord and helmet clips. It does retain its angle when you position it fairly well and has positive snapping / groves to keep it in place.

Updated: Defective with no returns

Purchased two a month ago. Tried out one and was very happy with it. So tried using the second one a few days ago and it is defective. There are no returns and no way to contact the seller. This is frustrating and should not be allowed. Because of this complete lack of accountability I am giving two stars for what seems like it might be a very good item.Update: Slonik recently reached out to me concerning the defective item and offered me a full refund. Given this, and the continuing strong, reliable performance of the one good one we got, I am updating my two star review to four stars. I still think that return-ability and direct contact with the seller are important for a consumer, that is why I am still holding back on a full five stars.
