Lose the 'hiss' and hear what you've missed.
Have a few of these now. They sit on the shelf of a south-facing window and passively charge by the sun. No fuss - no muss.In case of a power-outage - they're always ready to go. NO open flame (as with candles), NO fumes or dealing with combustible fuels (old butane/propane camping lanterns), and NO 'hiss' of those old butane/propane camp lights of yesteryear with the fragile wicks, so you can actually hear nature around you.Have deployed at night to test just how long one will last. They have lasted over 12-hours. That should be good for most applications. As long as you have a few hours of sunlight - with the 4800 mAh internal battery and low-power consumption LEDs, they should last for hours.

Owned many lanterns, this is best
I have owned a whole variety of camping lanterns and this is now my go-to lantern, I even bought a 2nd one.Pro's:-it's pretty bright but not so much you cannot place it in your line-of-sight as some are-power versatility on this is amazing with the ability to charge it before going, solar to recharge and back-up battery power from AA's. In addition it has a USB port so you can even charge it mid-trip with your power storage battery- I don't use this part, but you can even use this as a charging battery station. Nice for back-up if my larger portable rechargeable battery gets damaged or runs out.- it's light-it folds up pretty compactly so it is even good on pack space if you are looking for a versitile backpacking lantern that has better area light than those puck light/lanterns.Cons:- haven't come to know yet, but it doesn't seem like the toughest of products (but that translates into better weight savings and the price fits)- for backpacking, those puck shaped lanterns/tent lights/battery lights are smaller and lighter (but produce less light and have less power versitility without replicable battery back-ups)Over all, I would say you cannot go wrong with this latern for camping, power-outages, BBQ's and evening gatherings...even good for the prep'ers out there.

Everything You Could Want
This was a gift for someone who uses a light like this everyday who needed a replacement item because they broke their last one because it would drop and the lights just kept getting weaker and it would work then not work or just work a little. I did a lot of searching and this was smaller than I wanted, but it solar rechargeable and had a usb for charging phones which I thought was amazing since recently we had a power outage and it was out for about 36hrs in our area. And charging phones were pretty hard to do. I like that is was built tough because the person who uses it seems to be a little rough with it so I figured this would be perfect. I really didn't it to be collapsible and I wanted it to be bigger, but it being collapsible means the person who uses can just push it down and not have to remember to turn it off because that seems to hard for them as well. So pretty much it works great, it offers light in every direction and is really bright which is what I wanted and it's built tough and a usb is a big plus. This is perfect.

Won't hold a charge anymore & never would charge my phone
Had this lantern for 4 years... would not charge this summer. I used it about 3x a year for camping & never let the battery completely drain. Would have liked it to last much longer for as little as I used it. Now on the hunt for new lantern... wouldn't purchase this one again. And when I first received it I tried to use it to charge my phone but it never worked. I didn't buy it as a backup battery so I kept lantern for emergencies and camping.

charges easily and i still haven't had to put batteries in ...
This GD light is bright as hell, charges easily and i still haven't had to put batteries in it. Holy crap...did i mention it's bright? I went off grid for a small vacation, out in the woods and i wasn't getting enough illumination from the campfire to set up a tarp. I broke this bad boy out and jeezus christ. I felt like it was burning the atmosphere it was that bright. Inexpensive but definitely worth it for a small travel light. I haven;t tried to use it as a charging station and probably won't. I got this as a light, i have solar chargers for that purpose. Semi-sturdy, i mean i wouldn't put it through a drop test or anything, the plastic seems like it'd be fragile and the casing would break if dropped on rocks or from a tall height, but if you care for this thing, it'll illuminate the hell out of a campsite.

you can partially close this light to reduce brightness and the colored plastic base makes a nice glowing night light
Brighter than others on Amazon. Although there are no dimmer settings, you can partially close this light to reduce brightness and the colored plastic base makes a nice glowing night light. The solar charging is a wonderful option and it even charges under indoor room lighting! Very bright, very versatile. Would have given it 5 stars except my first one had a cosmetic defect in the epoxy resin that is poured over the solar panel on top. Other than that, no complaints.

Small but mighty!
Holy cow is this thing bright! I love to collect little solar powered lanterns to take camping and to have around the house in case of a power outage and I have several from different brands. They work well for the most part but most aren't terribly bright. You could read a book with them if the lanterns were close but they aren't too useful for lighting up a room. I got this in hopes that it would be a little brighter and good lord did I get what I wanted. I actually couldn't even stand to try to read using it because it of how bright it was - it was hurting my eyes. But it was extremely useful while camping and walking in the dark, and I love that it has the ability to slide up and down, allowing you to adjust the brightness some. It charges quickly and I'm very pleased with it. Of all my lanterns, this one has been the best so far.

Glad i bought it
Really love this lamp. My husband took it camping with my son and thought it worked great. He said he really liked that it has solar charging. It actually charged itself in the tent during the day while they were off doing camping stuff. The light isn't super bright, but was sufficient for their needs. It's not particularly sturdy, but if you take care of it, it should last ok. Another thing that he liked was that it got wet, sitting in a puddle from a bunch of rain that leaked into the tent at night, and still worked, not a glitch.
