Very happy with the new Linksys router

I have this wireless router set up as the only wireless access point in the house. I'm currently using the linksys box as my home firewall/router. This router is replacing a combination of a Netgear DAP1522 wireless N AP and an Apple Airport Express, and a netgear firewall/router. I get more coverage with this one AP than with the two wireless N devices. The router set up quickly and easily. It works with all of my wired and wireless devices. It's paired with a TP-LINK TL-SG1024D 10/100/1000Mbps 24-Port Gigabit switch. I have a variety of 2.4 and 5ghz devices and all work flawlessly, with better range and speed than when I had multiple access points. Ipad 3, Android phone, iphone, mac laptop, windows 7 desktop, windows 8 laptop all connect flawlessly so far. Streaming video performance over wifi and wired are all much improved.I also have a LaCie 2big Quadra USB 3.0 6TB External Hard Drive (9000354) plugged into the USB3.0 port on the router. The drive isn't on the approved product list, but it worked once I did the slow NTFS format. It's plenty fast as a NAS and that was one of the appealing points for me. I chose the Linksys over the Asus because of the significantly better performance of a NAS. The router may not have as many bells and whistles as some competitors, but I bought this box for performance. So far, it has delivered.I plan on adding a Sonos setup to the network and using the drive as a media server for Sonos. I have the drive set up in "safe" mode with the drives mirrored. I'm also really happy to have the guest network available. The drive does get a little warm, although I'll have to see if it stays warm under normal conditions, since I've been copying large volumes of data to the drive wirelessly. This router reminds me of when I first got my old WRT54G. I think this is going to be another winner.Update:This router works great with 2 Sonos speakers added to the mix. We have a long house and we ended up moving this unit to the far end. We had a dead spot at the opposite side of the house. We added a Cisco EA6500v2 in Bridge mode to cover the dead zone and it works great. Using the same SSID and passwords, mixed mode 2.4 and 5ghz,multiple devices (android, iOS, mac, PC) seamlessly move from one to the other. This has worked better than any other combination of wireless router and access points I've ever tried.

A solid, quality router.

I bought this to replace an older router that will be relegated to backup use. Once configured it works great. The one slight caveat is getting logged in the first time. There isn't an option to just connect to the router and set it up, you have to pull the old router, put this one in its place, and access it wirelessly after setting up an account with Linksys. In my case, my ISP limits my WAN connection to a single MAC address, which is the MAC of my old router. Once I plugged this one in my ISP wouldn't recognise it until I jumped through a few hoops with them. Once that was done it was simple to set up. I would prefer just to be able to log in directly without connecting to the Internet first, setting it up and cloning the MAC from my old router. Then I could just swap the routers. The interface is clear and straightforward and setup is simple. As discussed before, it's larger and heavier than many of the newer routers. The indicator lights are actually intuitive and more than just flashing indicator lights. The antennas are short, and unlike some other routers, they don't flop around. They stay exactly where you position them. The router sits in a corner utility room in the lower level of our ~4,000 square foot home and the wireless signal strength at the upper level far corner is still solid. With the old router it was marginal at best, even with extended antennas. Things "feel" faster (yes, just subjectively) with this router in place as opposed to the older router, especially when multiple people are doing multiple Internet activities. As far as looks, the router sits on a shelf in the corner of a utility room. I couldn't care less if it were a square cube painted pink, as long as it works. I've never considered a router's appearance "cool" or been concerned about looks, so if appearance is more important than function and you don't like the appearance, this router may not be the one for you.As solid as this router is built, it should last for several years.

Linksys rep, good build quality, fun retro look, strong radio, uber speed, firmware upgrades WRT 1900ac tech

Nice build, strong radio, tech has lurched ahead to crazy speeds in Netgear Night Hawk and Asus models...mfg trying to impress with tons of intennaes...nuts last I looked everyone was up to 3200 speed. I gotta say, I love tech too but stop insanity of marketing! I bought this and a $100 ASUS top notch PCI card for 1900 AC speed...together on new z97 Gigabyte MX board...amazing speed! That's WiFi not cable!!! I was blown away. I like retro but would prefer color to be blk w/red trim to match Como color theme. The blue understandably infers same quality great tech. After reading terrific reviews, I went with this vs Netgear Night Hawk or ASUS 1900 AC router, all have very good tech and customer reviews. Its a matter if brand loyalty and radio preferences..all 1900+ speeds will give outstanding speed given decent conditions. I own a lg home and want speed upstairs and outside. Ive got it here! Final thoughts rest in software ease and GUI. This is made for adults liking control of all..I love learning and tweaking but no adult Ed courses here yet to teach all to know for now, I'll use basic software default settings and look forward to set up if Guest feature for friends. I won't repeat all tech specs from others..its worth $200. If you are loyal to Linksys/Belkin and lived old WRT64 G..you'll enjoy it. Reviewed #1 by pros and geeks who know how to use 3rd party WRT program. If not, using default is fine. If you wanna learn..look for the adult ed class I'm in! Feels did just make a decision.
